Blue Light Glasses FAQs

How do blue light blocking glasses work?

These glasses are designed to filter out harmful blue light that is emitted from digital screens, specifically the highest energy shortest wavelengths in the 400nm-440nm range where they filter out 50% of this blue violet light. This helps reduce eye strain & fatigue, allowing your eyes to focus easier and improve contrast.

Are your glasses available with prescription or readers?

All the Adult's range of frames are available in reading magnifications of +1.0, +1.5 & +2.0. We don’t however have prescription lenses and recommend that you visit your local optometrist. The frames are also available to be purchased & have your local optometrist fit prescription lenses.

How do these glasses compare to other computer glasses?

Firstly, the lenses. Baxter Blue wanted to be certain the lens would filter out harmful blue violet light in the 400nm-440nm range whilst letting the good blue light in and so embarked on many months of research and development to create their own blue light lens, partnering with experts in the field to develop our Blue+ lenses. The Blue+ lenses are clear and filter 50% of the harmful blue violet light (400nm-440nm), have 100% UV protection and come with a anti-glare & anti-scratch coating. Unlike many other computer glasses on the market that have a yellow/orange tint, these clear lenses won't change the colour of your digital screen. Secondly, the frames. Baxter Blue have designed frames that you would be happy to wear out in public. By working with experienced frame designers they have developed a fashionable range of glasses that will hopefully suit all tastes.

Are there some other ways to alleviate digital eye strain?

Yes. Whilst these blue light blocking glasses alleviate the symptoms of digital eye strain we also recommend you also do the following:

  • Follow the 20/20/20 rule – take a 20 second break, from the screen every 20 minutes and look at something 20 feet away (6 meters)
  • Reduce overhead lighting to eliminate screen glare
  • Position yourself at arms distance away from your screen
  • Ensure your monitor is flat & positioned directly in front of your face
  • The top of your monitor should be at eye level or slightly lower
